Wat Arun beside the Chao Phraya in Bangkok
Thailand Itinerary 7 Days
Seven days in January 2027: Bangkok, then Chiang Mai. It is the dry season. The north is cooler in the morning than the city.
About This Destination
Thailand in January 2027 follows the usual dry-season pattern. This is not a special forecast for that year. Bangkok is hot and mostly dry, with highs around 32°C. Chiang Mai is sunny and cooler, and mornings can be about 15°C. The far south islands are also in their better season, but this Thailand itinerary 7 days uses two cities so you are not also changing islands.
Daylight is about 11 hours. Reserve the Bangkok hotel, the Chiang Mai hotel, and the Bangkok–Chiang Mai flight. January seats go early. Grand Palace tickets are bought at the official gate, not by this site. Paradise Pilot drafts the plan. It does not book flights, hotels, or tickets.
The flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is about 1 hour 15 minutes in the air, plus both airports. Treat it as a morning, not a gap between temples.

Day-by-day itinerary outline
- Day 1
Arrive in Bangkok
Land at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang and go to the hotel. The airport train or a taxi is 45 to 90 minutes depending on the airport and traffic. No Grand Palace today.
- Day 2
Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the river
Be at the Grand Palace at opening, about 08:30. Then Wat Pho, then a boat, and indoors for the hot afternoon.
- Day 3
Morning flight to Chiang Mai
A morning flight, then one Chiang Mai neighborhood. Do not schedule Doi Suthep on the arrival day.
- Day 4
Doi Suthep
Morning on the mountain, back in the old city for a warm afternoon. The top is cooler than the moat.
- Day 5
Doi Inthanon
A full day to Thailand’s highest peak. Leave by 07:30. The summit is cold in January. Back before dark.
- Day 6
Chiang Mai on foot
No new transfer. Temples you missed, Nimman if you want shops, and an early night before the flight.
- Day 7
Fly out
Leave from Chiang Mai if the international ticket allows it. Otherwise a morning flight to Bangkok and the long-haul from there. No sightseeing.
Thailand Itinerary 7 Days planning questions
What is Thailand like in January 2027?
Expect the normal January dry season: hot and dry in Bangkok, cooler mornings in Chiang Mai, and a good time for the north. Smoke in the north is more of a February–April problem than early January, but check the week you travel.
Why Bangkok and Chiang Mai, not the islands?
Seven days fits two cities with one flight. Adding Phuket or Krabi means a second flight and a shorter stay in each place. The islands are also fine in January if you would rather drop Chiang Mai.
How do I get between Bangkok and Chiang Mai?
Fly. About 1 hour 15 minutes in the air. The night train exists and takes about 10 to 12 hours. This plan uses a morning flight so you still have a Chiang Mai afternoon.
What should I reserve ahead?
Both hotels and the domestic flight. Grand Palace entry is same-day at the gate if you go at opening, but January lines are long. This site does not book them.
